Chilly Start to December for South-Central Pennsylvania
Susquehanna Valley braces for winter temperatures, with highs in the 30s this weekend
As November concludes and December begins, residents of south-central Pennsylvania are being greeted by a significant drop in temperatures. A cold front is settling into the Susquehanna Valley, bringing with it chilly conditions for the first weekend of the month.
Temperatures Friday night are expected to plummet into the 20s, accompanied by a clear sky and a light breeze of 5-10 mph that will create wind chill values dipping into the teens. Meteorologists forecast that both Saturday and Sunday will see highs struggling to reach the 30s, with wind chills presenting a constant chill in the 20s throughout the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will again fall into the 20s, maintaining a brisk wind chill feel.
This frosty weather signals a period of below-average temperatures which are set to continue into the first week of December. The average high for this time of year is typically in the upper 40s, but residents can expect mid-30s at best until at least Thursday. While the skies will remain dry and partly cloudy, a quick-moving clipper system is on the horizon, potentially bringing a few snow showers by Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
For those partaking in outdoor activities, including the much-anticipated start of deer season, it’s vital to bundle up to stay warm during the frigid conditions.
As the community prepares for the biting cold, it’s a clear reminder that winter is officially setting in across south-central Pennsylvania. The chilly weather not only marks a seasonal transition but also enhances the holiday spirit that many in the region cherish.
