Men’s Squash Season Opens This Weekend for 2024-25

The University of Pennsylvania men’s squash team, ranked first in the College Squash Association’s preseason poll, is gearing up to kick off their season with a busy schedule. The defending Potter Cup national champions will face Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster on Friday, then return home to host Haverford and Drexel on Saturday, followed by matchups against Dickinson and Chatham on Sunday.

Under the guidance of head coach Gilly Lane, entering his 9th season with the team, the Quakers have achieved an impressive 30-2 record over the past two seasons. Last year, they clinched their first-ever Potter Cup in program history. The team finished the 2023-24 season with a 15-1 record, going undefeated at home with a perfect 10-0 record at the Penn Squash Center.

Key returners for the Quakers include All-Ivy players Omar Hafez, Nick Spizzirri, and Salman Khalil Salman, alongside other standout performers like Nathan Kueh, Varun Chitturi, and Dana Sentry. Team captains Roger Baddour and Abdelrahman Dweek are also set to provide leadership as the team aims to continue their success from last season.

The team’s roster will also see the addition of three talented freshmen – Zane Patel, Marwan Tamer, and Rustin Wiser – who will be competing for starting positions throughout the season. With high expectations and goals of repeating as National Champions and winning the Ivy Championship outright, the Quakers are poised for another exciting season of squash competition.
