The University of Pennsylvania fencing programs will be hosting the Elite Invite at the Tse Center this weekend, marking their first home competition of the 2024-25 season. The event will take place on Saturday, November 16, starting at 12:15 p.m., and continue on Sunday, November 17, with the first strip at 8:30 a.m. The Quakers previously competed at the Temple Open in October, where they had several standout performances.
Bryce Louie secured the top spot in foil for the fourth consecutive year, while freshman Polina Kharchyna claimed silver in epee. Senior Katina Proestakis Ortiz also had a strong showing, earning bronze in foil. Other notable finishes for the women’s team included Talia Becker Calazans placing sixth in foil, and Grace Hu and Victoria Kuznetsov both finishing ninth in epee. Amanda Li placed sixth in sabre, and Vivian Lu secured seventh place in the same category. On the men’s side, sophomores Joseph Wu and Nicholas Wu captured bronze in epee and foil, respectively. Freshman Ben Kogan also impressed with a tied ninth place finish in sabre.
The Elite Invite will feature teams from Air Force, Cleveland State, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, LIU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Princeton, Stanford, Temple, and Yale. With strong performances in the Temple Open, the Quakers will be looking to continue their success on their home turf. #FightOnPenn.
