Multiple House Democrats from Connecticut, including the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, were targeted in bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving Day. Thankfully, all members and their families are safe, and no bombs were found. The threats came shortly after several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees also received bomb threats. In response to the threats, Representative Jim Himes stated that there is no place for political violence in the country and called for unity and civility throughout the holiday season. Representative Jahana Hayes also received a bomb threat via email claiming a pipe bomb had been placed in her mailbox, but no bomb or explosive materials were found. Similarly, Representative Joe Courtney received a bomb threat, but no bomb was located. Both representatives expressed gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement officers. Overall, the incidents highlight the importance of security and safety for political figures and the need to address threats of violence in a proactive manner.
