Significant Fire Displaces Nearly 40 Residents in Norristown
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) – A destructive fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon, damaging ten homes and displacing around 40 residents in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The incident began shortly after 2:45 p.m. on the 700 block of Lafayette Street, where flames were reported emerging from a rowhome.
Witnesses described a dramatic scene as some locals rushed to assist their neighbors. Bernon Perry, a courageous resident, took it upon himself to alert others in the area by banging on doors and urging people to evacuate. "I come out and start knocking on every door on the block… I didn’t think about me getting hurt. I’m thinking about saving somebody’s life," Perry remarked, highlighting the swift response of the community.
Firefighters promptly arrived and spent approximately two hours working to bring the flames under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the blaze.
In the aftermath, the American Red Cross stepped in to aid the displaced residents, offering shelter and support at Blockson Middle School. A total of 39 individuals are being assisted as they navigate the challenges of relocation and recovery following this unexpected disaster.
