PIAA Playoffs Set for Semifinal Showdown This Weekend
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) playoffs are heating up as the final four teams in each classification prepare for a thrilling state semifinals weekend. With the quarterfinals complete, the rankings have largely remained stable, especially in the higher classifications, where top-ranked teams continued their victorious paths.
In Class 6A, defending champions St. Joseph’s Prep (9-2) secured their spot by defeating Parkland 46-7. They will face No. 4 Downingtown West in the semifinals. Class 5A leaders Bishop McDevitt (12-2) and Pine-Richland (11-1) will clash in a highly anticipated matchup of the top two seeds on Friday.
Class 4A sees Lampeter-Strasburg (13-0) ranked first, having triumphed in an overtime thriller against Wyomissing. They will take on No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (14-0), while Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast (10-2) gears up against No. 4 Southern Lehigh (12-2).
The 3A semifinals will feature Northwestern Lehigh (14-0) pitted against Danville (13-0), with both teams coming off convincing quarterfinal wins. In Class 2A, Troy (14-0) leads the rankings and will face Taylor Riverside (13-1), while Central Clarion (13-0) takes on South Park (12-1).
In Class A, Fort Cherry (14-0) looks to maintain their undefeated streak against Port Allegany (13-0), with Bishop Guilfoyle (13-1) battling Muncy (12-2) in another semifinal clash.
As the excitement builds for the upcoming games this Friday and Saturday, fans are eager to see if their favorite teams can continue their pursuit of state gold and finish atop the final rankings.
