Los Angeles Dodgers Sign Blake Snell to Five-Year, $182 Million Deal

By Ronald Blum, The Associated Press

The Los Angeles Dodgers are making headlines once again as they secure a major addition to their already impressive roster. Less than a month after clinching the World Series title, the Dodgers have reportedly agreed to a five-year contract worth $182 million with two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The deal, which is pending a successful physical examination, was confirmed by Snell himself via social media, where he shared a photo in his new Dodgers uniform, number 7.

Snell’s addition marks a significant boost to the Dodgers’ pitching rotation, joining fellow stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. This move comes amid the departure of key pitchers, including Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler, who became free agents this fall. With injuries plaguing their pitching staff during the postseason, the need for a reliable ace is urgent, and Snell fits that bill.

In 2023, Snell showcased his talent with a 5-3 record, a 3.12 ERA, and a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. Having opted out of his previous contract with the San Francisco Giants, he is looking for a fresh start with the Dodgers, where he will earn an average of $36.4 million per year, making it one of the highest salaries in the league.

As the Dodgers bolster their lineup with top-tier talent, they aim to sustain their championship momentum, with high hopes for the upcoming season and the return of all-star pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw. With Snell’s signing, the Dodgers are poised to maintain their dominance in the league.
