Man in California dies from electrocution while decorating his home for Christmas

Antonio Pascual, a 24-year-old man from California, tragically died while hanging Christmas lights on a roof in Escondido. As he was throwing the lights over a high voltage powerline, he was electrocuted and found hanging upside down from a tree by paramedics. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. His death was ruled a high voltage electrocution by the medical examiner.

His brother, Juan Pascual, shared that Antonio was trapped in the tree for an hour as first responders had to wait for the power company to turn off the power, leading to his untimely death. The family has started a GoFundMe fundraiser to transport Antonio to Guatemala, his birthplace, for burial where his mother lives. The fundraiser highlights how Antonio cared for his mother and family, and that Christmas lights will hold a special meaning for them.

Pascual’s loved ones remember him as a brother, son, and uncle who had his whole life ahead of him. At 24 years old, he will forever be young in their memories. Local officials did not comment on the incident when contacted by USA TODAY, and Saleen Martin reported on the tragic event.
