Tragic Shooting Claims Life of 17-Year-Old in Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Johnstown, PA – A 17-year-old high school student was shot dead on Sunday night in an incident that has left the local community in mourning. The suspect, Kaden Woodring, also 17, has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and receiving stolen property.
The police responded to a report of a gunshot victim at a residence on Sheridan Street just before midnight. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen in the basement of the home. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witness accounts, the victim arrived at the home to pick up friends when Woodring allegedly aimed a hunting-style rifle at her and said, “You know I’m playin’?” before firing the weapon. Following the shooting, Woodring reportedly informed a family member and contacted emergency services before leaving the location. He was taken into custody after reaching out to the police.
Authorities revealed that the rifle used in the shooting was stolen and had been acquired by Woodring from another juvenile weeks prior to the incident.
In a statement, Amy Arcurio, Superintendent of the Greater Johnstown School District, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. "We are in a state of shock as we grieve the loss of our student. Our hearts go out to her family and our entire Trojan community as we try to understand this tragedy."
Woodring is currently being held without bail at the Cambria County Prison, and an autopsy for the deceased is scheduled for today. The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this devastating loss.
