Troy Trojans Dominate Bedford 42-16 in Playoff Clash
November 23, 2024 – The Troy Trojans showcased their formidable return to traditional smash-mouth football, overwhelming the Bedford Bisons with a resounding 42-16 victory in the playoffs. The Trojans, typically known for their explosive offensive plays, embraced a more physical style, dominating both on the ground and in the turnover battle.
Head Coach Jim Smith emphasized the team’s strategy to exert their physicality, leading to a perfect offensive performance in terms of turnover control. The Trojans managed to dominate the field despite an initial three-and-out on their opening drive. The game shifted when defensive standout Joseph Frye intercepted a pass, ending a promising Bedford drive and igniting Troy’s offense for 42 consecutive points.
Quarterback Evan Woodward led the charge with a series of effective drives, including a 12-play sequence culminating in a rushing touchdown. The Trojans continued to capitalize on defensive opportunities, scoring multiple touchdowns before halftime and establishing a commanding 21-0 lead. Notably, junior running back Brendan Gilliland burst onto the scene with a 52-yard touchdown run early in the second half.
Despite Bedford’s efforts to regain footing, including two late touchdowns to avoid a shutout, the Bisons struggled to counter Troy’s relentless offense and resolute defense. The Trojans’ victory puts them in a favorable position as they await the outcome of the Riverside/Williams Valley matchup to determine their next opponent in the playoffs.
