Snow Melts Away as Rain Arrives in Pennsylvania

Western Pennsylvania Weather Update: Transition from Snow to Rain and Wind

PITTSBURGH – A winter storm warning remains in effect for higher elevations in Westmoreland and Fayette counties until 7 a.m. Saturday, as Western Pennsylvania transitions from snow to rain and wind. Indiana County is also under a winter weather advisory during this time.

While a noticeably damp night is expected, with drizzle and steady temperatures around 40 degrees, rain is forecasted to taper off by Saturday morning. Despite the cloudy start, the afternoon promises a dry spell, perfect for outdoor events including the WPIAL high school football championship games at Acrisure Stadium and the Light Up Night festivities in downtown Pittsburgh.

Looking toward the weekend, Saturday will see a high of 46 degrees, followed by slightly warmer temperatures reaching 49 degrees on Sunday. As the weekend progresses, the weather will remain dry, ideal for those enjoying the Light Up Night celebrations. However, a shift in conditions is anticipated late Monday into early Tuesday, when rain showers may develop overnight, potentially impacting the sleep cycle but not disrupting daytime activities.

As Thanksgiving approaches, residents should prepare for more unsettled weather. Models indicate a combination of rain and potential snow could arrive on Thanksgiving Day, with a projected high of 42 degrees. Following this, snow is possible on Friday, which may complicate post-holiday travel plans.

Stay tuned as meteorologists track these changing conditions throughout the week and provide updates on the evolving weather patterns in Western Pennsylvania.
