The high school basketball season is set to begin in Northeast Pennsylvania, with a College Showcase girls basketball event hosted by Kevin Clark of Riverfront Sports Complex at Lackawanna College Student Union on Dec. 13-15. The event will feature 19 teams from Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, with several NCAA Division I prospects.
Local teams, including Mountain View, Abington Heights, and Dunmore, will face off against out-of-state opponents, showcasing top talent like Maggie Warpus from Chenango, New York, and Gandy Malou-Mamel from Gill St. Bernard, New Jersey.
Mountain View junior Addison Kilmer, the reigning Pennsylvania Sports Writers Girls Class 1A Player of the Year, and other local standouts like Chrissy Jacklinski and Ella Clementoni are also set to make an impact.
In other basketball news, former Meyers High School and East Stroudsburg University standout Ryan Krawczeniuk is making his coaching debut at Cardinal O’Hara, while Abington Heights boys basketball team is under the guidance of first-year coach JC Show.
Due to bleacher replacement projects, Carbondale Area teams will be unable to play home games before Christmas, with the Jerry Finan Tournament relocated to Honesdale on Dec. 2-3. Additionally, matchups for the upcoming Lynett Memorial Basketball Tournament at Lackawanna College have been announced, with Scranton hoping to defend their titles from last season.
