Trump Accuses Pennsylvania of Voter Cheating Amid Bucks County Lawsuit
Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Pennsylvania election officials Wednesday, alleging widespread cheating in the state as his campaign announced plans to sue Bucks County over reports of long lines and voter cutoff times at election offices. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed, “Pennsylvania is cheating, and getting caught, at large scale levels rarely seen before,” calling on law enforcement to intervene immediately.
Despite Trump’s assertions, local officials confirmed that they ensured all voters who arrived on time were able to obtain a ballot. Unlike many states, Pennsylvania lacks a straightforward early voting system, requiring voters to request mail ballots in person at election offices. This process led to confusion on Tuesday, the deadline for requesting mail ballots, when some reported that election workers halted the line for casting mail ballots at 2:30 PM, arguing that everyone present should have been allowed to vote immediately.
County officials clarified that while the line for casting ballots may have closed, those waiting were still permitted to request mail ballots, thus ensuring they could vote by post. Undeterred, Republican leaders responded by announcing legal action against Bucks County. Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley emphasized his commitment to fighting this perceived injustice in court at a rally in Allentown.
Bucks County, a pivotal battleground for the upcoming election, has a history of lawsuits, with officials having faced 11 legal challenges since the 2020 election. Bob Harvie, the Democratic vice chair of the county’s Board of Commissioners, expressed confidence in their legal preparedness, asserting that thorough documentation would help defend against any frivolous lawsuits. As Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris vie for the county’s support, the tension between state election practices and party claims continues to escalate.
