Penn Cross Country Athletes Named Ivy League Athletes of the Week
Penn men’s and women’s cross country runners, Will Shaughnessy and Lara Cota, have been recognized as the Ivy League Athletes of the Week. Shaughnessy finished first in the 4M race at the Haverford Invitational with a time of 20:08.4, while Cota came in first in the women’s 6k with a personal best time of 17:52.5. The women’s team secured their first victory of the season and scored 28 points. The next challenge for both teams is the Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships in Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 2.
Throughout the 2024 cross country season, Penn has collected five weekly awards, making them the front-runners in the Ivy League. Previous winners from Penn include Luke Johnson, Liam Going, Dylan Throop, Shaughnessy, and Cota. The women’s 6k race will kick off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men’s 8k race at noon at the upcoming championships. #FightOnPenn
