Local Athletes Shine in PIAA District Tournaments
Cumberland Valley and Trinity High Schools celebrated remarkable victories in the PIAA District tournaments on October 29, showcasing standout performances across boys’ and girls’ soccer, as well as volleyball.
In boys’ soccer, Cumberland Valley triumphed over Wilson with a 3-1 victory in the District 3 4A semifinals. Sascha Sanders, Ben Metz, and Chayse Snyder each contributed to the scoreline, securing their team’s place in the finals. Meanwhile, Trinity advanced in the District 3 2A semifinals with a decisive 3-0 win against Wyomissing, highlighted by goals from Shane Ashman, Anthony Matzoni, and Brendan Palmer.
The girls’ soccer matches saw Northern defeat Central Dauphin 2-1, with Allison Bechtel and Ava Ondecko both finding the net. Andrea Black was pivotal with two assists. Trinity also showcased dominance, beating Boiling Springs 3-0; Mia Scherr shined with two goals and an assist, supported by Emma Kostelac’s goal.
In volleyball, Central Dauphin secured a spot in the District 3 4A championship by sweeping Manheim Township 3-0. Key performances included Amber Hanks with 15 digs and Olivia Von Neida, who delivered 21 assists. Trinity followed suit, advancing in the District 3 2A championship with their own 3-0 victory over Littlestown, highlighted by Jayda Gray’s impressive 18 kills.
Greencastle-Antrim also excelled, defeating Big Spring 3-1 to reach the District 3 3A championship, bolstered by Abigail Eagler’s 19 kills and Kylie Kerns’ double-double performance.
These talented athletes not only showcased their skills but also brought pride to their schools, as they gear up for upcoming championship matches.
