The University of Pennsylvania women’s fencing team kicked off the 2024-25 season with a strong showing at the Temple Open. Freshman Polina Kharchyna made an impressive collegiate debut, winning silver in epee, while senior Katina Proestakis Ortiz claimed silver in foil. The team had five other top-ten finishes, with freshmen Malak Hamza, Amanda Li, Sophie Neuman, and Alexandra Wong also making their mark. The Quakers will next compete at the Elite Invitational on November 16 at the Tse Center. In the foil event, Proestakis Ortiz finished tied for third, while Talia Becker Calazans placed sixth. In epee, Kharchyna finished second, with Grace Hu and Victoria Kuznetsov tying for ninth. Amanda Li placed sixth in sabre, while Vivian Lu finished seventh.
