Woman missing in Australia discovered alive with snake bite injury

A 48-year-old woman in Australia who was reported missing in the Snowy Mountains region on October 21 was found alive on October 27. She had survived a snake bite from a copperhead snake four days before being found. The woman was treated for dehydration, a rolled ankle, and the snake bite by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Cooma District Hospital in stable condition. The search for the woman was initiated by a car service company reporting that her vehicle had not been moved for six days. Copperhead snakes are venomous and can cause local pain, swelling, redness, and systemic symptoms like low blood pressure and bleeding. These snakes are found in relatively cool and cold environments in southeastern parts of Australia. The woman’s survival was considered fortunate, and Superintendent Toby Lindsay of the Monaro Police District noted that she had gone through a tough time before being found. About 30 people searched the area daily until she was located on the Nungar Creek Trail at Kiandra by a National Parks and Wildlife Service officer. The woman’s identity has not been released, and she is now recovering from her ordeal.
