Pittsburgh Steelers Part Ways with Former Notre Dame Star Pass Rusher

Pittsburgh Steelers Waive Linebacker Ade Ogundeji

In a strategic roster move, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced the waiving of outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji on Tuesday. The decision comes as the team anticipates the return of Nick Herbig following the bye week, creating an opportunity to adjust their lineup amid recent injuries in the linebacker corps.

Ogundeji, who has been oscillating between the practice squad and the active roster, has seen limited action this season. In his three appearances with the Steelers, he made a noticeable impact with one pass defensed, though his defensive snaps were minimal, with just seven recorded against the New York Giants. His contributions also extended to special teams, amplifying his role within the squad.

Despite the release, Ogundeji remains a potential candidate for re-signing to the practice squad, particularly given the season-ending injury to DeMarvin Leal, which opens up possibilities for future playing time. The Steelers’ decision to waive Ogundeji also follows the cut of running back Aaron Shampklin, leaving two available spots on the active roster.

Ogundeji, who previously shone at Notre Dame, joined the Steelers after being released by the Atlanta Falcons, where he accumulated three sacks over three seasons before being let go due to coaching changes. As the Steelers continue to navigate their roster dynamics, the focus now shifts to leveraging their available players effectively during the upcoming games.

Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how the Steelers adapt in the wake of these roster changes as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
