Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame introduces the latest addition to its local chapter


The Allen-Rogowicz Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inducted 12 former Schuylkill County athletes at a ceremony in Minersville. Among the honorees were former standout athletes such as Schuylkill Haven’s Mike Farr, Pottsville’s William J. Flynn, Williams Valley’s Christina Thompson Harner, Pine Grove’s David Horst, and Blue Mountain’s Capt. Jason Jones, among others.

Mike Farr, a Schuylkill Haven football coach and former Cleveland Indians player, expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting Schuylkill Haven’s community values. William J. Flynn, a standout at Pottsville Area High School, shared memories of his successful high school sports career and his time at the US Naval Academy.

Christina Thompson Harner, a standout basketball player from Williams Valley, emphasized the importance of coaching and being a positive role model for young athletes. David Horst, a former soccer player at Pine Grove and MLS champion with Real Salt Lake, reflected on his successful career in professional soccer.

Other inductees included Steven Horst, Ashley Miller, Bobbi-Jo Ramsey, Jeffrey Reading, Samantha Snukis, and brothers Matthew and Nicholas Melusky. Each shared their memories of triumphs in high school sports and their continued involvement in athletics and coaching.

The ceremony honored these former athletes for their achievements on and off the field, showcasing the rich sporting tradition of Schuylkill County. The inductees expressed gratitude for their upbringing in the tight-knit communities of the county, which instilled in them the values of hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
