The University of Pennsylvania men’s fencing team kicked off the 2024-25 season in style by dominating the Temple Open on Sunday. Senior Bryce Louie secured the top spot in foil for the fourth consecutive year, while sophomores Joseph Wu and Nicholas Wu claimed bronze in epee and foil, respectively. Freshman Ben Kogan also stood out, finishing tied for ninth in sabre in his debut with the team.
The Quakers also saw several freshmen make their collegiate debuts at the tournament, including Jonathan Cheng, Nicholas Jin, Donghyeok Kim, Noah Nager, and Jaesun Yun. The team will next compete at the Elite Invitational at the Tse Center on Saturday, Nov. 16th.
In the epee competition, Joseph Wu finished tied for third, followed by Donghyeok Kim in 17th place. In foil, Bryce Louie took the top spot, with Nicholas Wu tying for third. Ben Kogan impressed in sabre, finishing tied for ninth in the event.
Overall, the team’s strong showing at the Temple Open sets a promising tone for the rest of the season. The Quakers are looking forward to continuing their success at the upcoming Elite Invitational.
