District 9 Playoffs Kick Off Amid Excitement and Rivalry
October 28, 2024 – As the regular season concludes, District 9 football teams gear up for the much-anticipated playoffs. With injury concerns set aside, athletes and coaches alike are prepared to elevate their game and strategies.
In Class 1A, seven of the eight qualifying teams are set to compete. Top-seed Port Allegany receives a bye, while #2 Redbank Valley, the defending champion, will host #7 Cameron County. The other first-round matchups feature #3 Union/AC Valley facing #6 Otto-Eldred and #4 Keystone hosting #5 Ridgway, a rematch of a closely contested game that Keystone won 22-20 just three weeks ago.
Class 2A only saw two teams with winning records qualify for the playoffs: #1 Central Clarion and #2 Karns City. The Wildcats, last season’s champions and currently ranked #2 in Pennsylvania, face off against the Gremlins at Brookville. However, Karns City seeks redemption after suffering a heavy defeat earlier in the season.
In Class 3A, only two teams—Brockway and St. Marys—qualified. Brockway, the #1 seed, will play at a neutral site against St. Marys.
District 4A features three teams competing for the title, with top seed Clearfield awaiting the winner of Punxsutawney and USO’s matchup. Meanwhile, Class 5A sees teams chosen on a points basis. Hollidaysburg, Cathedral Prep, DuBois, and Allderdice are all in contention, with Hollidaysburg and Cathedral Prep holding higher seeds.
The playoffs commence on Friday, with thrilling matchups at stake, showcasing the best of District 9 talent. For updates, follow Phil Myers on Twitter @Protime_PFN and PA Football News @PaFootballNews.
