Early voting in Georgia for the Nov. 5 presidential election saw a record turnout, with 252,000 voters casting their ballots on the first day of early voting. This was nearly double the number of voters who participated in early voting in the 2020 election. Early voting has become increasingly popular with U.S. voters, with nearly 1 in 7 casting their ballots ahead of Election Day in 2020. However, some Republicans oppose mail voting, citing concerns about security, even as nationwide, 5.5 million Americans have already voted this year. Georgia has tightened its mail-voting laws, requiring proof of identity for absentee ballots. Georgia is one of seven battleground states expected to play a key role in deciding the election.
