Duke Energy alerts to potential 1 million power outages

Duke Energy is preparing for over 1 million outages in Florida when Hurricane Milton hits the state. The company will have 16,000 workers staged along the storm’s path to restore power as soon as possible. Hurricane Milton is expected to be extremely intense and potentially one of the most destructive hurricanes in west-central Florida. Despite predictions of weakening, the storm reached Category 5 status with wind speeds of up to 165 mph.

Meanwhile, the Southeast is still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Over 1 million people in Georgia and North Carolina were without power. Duke Energy reported that many North Carolina customers are still without power due to extensive damage to their homes. The company has restored 2.6 million outages, including 1.4 million in North Carolina, since Sept. 27. Duke Energy has shifted to a targeted approach for restoration efforts in western North Carolina. Despite the challenges, the company is working to get the power back on for those affected by the recent hurricanes.
