The Kansas City Royals beat the New York Yankees 4-2 in Game 2 of the AL Division Series to even the series at one game apiece. Salvador Perez hit a home run to kick off a four-run rally against Carlos Rodón. Relievers held the Yankees in check after an inconsistent Cole Ragans pitched four innings. Four runs were driven in by Tommy Pham, Garrett Hampson, and Maikel Garcia, who had four hits and moved up in the lineup.
The series is tied heading into Game 3, to be played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, marking the Royals’ first postseason home game since the 2015 World Series. Yankees star Aaron Judge struggled, going 1 for 3 with four strikeouts in the series. Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI single for the Yankees.
The game ended with a leadoff homer by Jazz Chisholm Jr. off Lucas Erceg, but the Yankees were unable to capitalize, going 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
Kansas City’s strong hitting and pitching performances set the stage for an exciting Game 3. The Royals will send Seth Lugo to the mound, while the Yankees will start Clarke Schmidt. Both teams will be looking to take the series lead with a win in Game 3.
