Spotlight on Pennsylvania’s Election Accessibility: A Closer Look

State and federal laws protect the right to vote for all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, language, or disability. However, voting access in Pennsylvania is not always equal. A recent analysis by the ACLU of Pennsylvania revealed that at least 16 counties in the state do not give voters the opportunity to correct technical mistakes on mail-in ballots, such as forgetting to date the return envelope.

Civil rights organizations have also highlighted disparities in voting access for individuals who do not speak English or have disabilities. To address these issues, Spotlight PA is hosting a live panel discussion on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 6-7 p.m. on Zoom.

The discussion will be led by Elizabeth Estrada, Spotlight PA’s democracy editor, and panelists will include Kate Huangpu, government reporter for Spotlight PA, Marian K. Schneider, senior policy counsel for voting rights at the ACLU of Pennsylvania, and Sean Drasher, elections director for Lebanon County.

The event is free to attend, but donations are encouraged to support Spotlight PA’s public-service programming. To RSVP for the event, visit spotlightpa.org/donate. The panel will focus on the accessibility of Pennsylvania’s elections and provide information on how individuals can protect their right to vote. Don’t miss this important discussion on voting rights in Pennsylvania.
