Johnson declines to acknowledge Biden’s victory in 2020 election over Trump

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, refused to acknowledge that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden during an interview with ABC News. He also did not criticize comments made by Trump and his son, Eric Trump, suggesting that Democrats were involved in assassination attempts against the former president in Pennsylvania. However, there is no evidence to support these claims.

The shooter at the July rally in Pennsylvania was a registered Republican, and the suspect in the second assassination attempt has been unaffiliated for years and recently supported the Democratic Party. Despite this, Johnson did not address the lack of evidence behind the allegations made by the Trumps.

Johnson emphasized the need to focus on policy discussions rather than personal attacks, but repeatedly avoided confirming that Biden won the election. This refusal to acknowledge the election result echoes similar sentiments expressed by other Republicans, including vice-presidential candidate JD Vance during a recent debate.

Although Biden won the 2020 election and courts have rejected claims of widespread voter fraud, Johnson and other Republicans continue to avoid definitive statements on the outcome. Johnson’s reluctance to address this issue, along with his refusal to denounce baseless accusations made by the Trumps, highlights the ongoing divide within the GOP regarding the legitimacy of the election results.
