Palestinian journalist Hassan Hamad was killed in an Israeli air strike on his home in Jabalia camp, bringing the total number of journalists killed in the conflict to 175. Hamad, who had been documenting the war in Gaza for over a year, was warned by an Israeli officer days before his death to stop filming in the area. His colleagues and Gaza’s Government Media Office confirmed that his home was deliberately attacked to silence him after receiving threats.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) stated that at least 128 journalists and media workers have been killed in the conflict since Israel launched the war in October 2023. Hamad, aged only 19, had been working as a freelance TV reporter, with his work appearing on Al Jazeera and other networks.
The Israeli government has not yet commented on his death. CPJ’s Program Director Carlos Martinez de la Serna emphasized the importance of protecting journalists and preserving the truth in the face of such tragedies. “Every time a journalist is killed, injured, arrested, or forced into exile, we lose fragments of the truth,” he said. The international community continues to condemn the violence against journalists in the region, calling for accountability for those responsible for these casualties.
