Iran launched a massive aerial attack on Israel in retaliation for the assassinations of senior Hezbollah and Hamas leaders and some Iranian officers. The United States expanded its military presence in the Middle East to help defend Israel, intercepting 180 projectiles fired by Iran at Israeli military bases. However, US military interventions have made Israel more vulnerable and dependent on American military power.
The focus on military force has prevented efforts to address the core causes of tensions in the region, such as the Palestinian-Zionist conflict. This has led to powerful resistance groups like Hezbollah and Hamas attacking US and Israeli targets. The close ties between the US and Israel have roots in the Cold War and continue to support US dominance in the Middle East. President Joe Biden, a strong supporter of Israel, benefits politically from this stance.
The US Congress ensures aid and privileges for Israel, while mainstream media skew reporting to favor Israel. Investing in peace efforts would be less expensive and destructive than perpetuating military conflicts.
