Since October 7th, there has been a rise in antisemitic and anti-Muslim sentiments and violence across the country. The death toll from Hurricane Helene in the Southeast has reached 181. It’s also Fat Bear Week, where people can vote for their favorite large bear.
Nearly a year ago, a Hamas attack in southern Israel reignited old conflicts and led to over 40,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza. The aftermath of this attack has caused division and loss in the US, with families and relationships being strained by differing opinions on the conflict. Despite the ongoing fighting in the region, efforts are being made by shattered families and individuals in New Jersey to support the people of Israel and Gaza.
Hurricane Helene has already caused significant loss of life in the Southeast, but a new study suggests that the indirect effects of the storm could lead to thousands more deaths over the years, especially among Black individuals. In other news, the special counsel argues that Donald Trump should not be immune from criminal charges related to election subversion, and Apple’s focus on health technology in their recent product updates could have a big impact on consumers. Additionally, a third person has pleaded guilty in connection to Matthew Perry’s death.
Lastly, Fat Bear Week is ongoing, with contestants vying for the title of the fattest bear. Last year’s champion, Grazer, is making a return to the competition.
