TBI launches investigation into Impact Plastics following employee fatalities during flooding

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a plastics manufacturer in Erwin after six workers were swept away by floodwaters during the storm caused by Helene. Employees of Impact Plastics have alleged that management didn’t allow them to leave the factory despite flood warnings and rising waters. Two women have died, with at least three others still missing. The company confirmed the death of one person but did not provide details. The employees were forced to climb onto a truck in the industrial park where the factory is located. The truck flipped, and the workers were swept away by the floodwaters. District Attorney Steve Finney requested the investigation, and the TBI is looking into potential criminal violations. Workers have claimed that management did not allow them to evacuate when flood warnings were issued, leading to the tragic outcome. Some of the missing employees have been identified, including Bertha Mendoza, Monica Hernandez, Rosa Maria Andrade Reynoso, and Lydia Verdugo. This situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as information becomes available.
