GOP billionaire lavishes funds on ads for PA attorney general race • Spotlight PA

Republican candidate Dave Sunday for Pennsylvania Attorney General is benefiting from a significant amount of TV ad spending, largely due to support from billionaire Wall Street trader Jeff Yass. Yass-funded political action committees have spent over $5.4 million on ads supporting Sunday, while the Republican Attorneys General Association has spent a similar amount, totaling over $10.8 million in pro-Sunday ads. Sunday’s campaign, however, asserts that they are following all rules and regulations.

Sunday, the York County district attorney, is focusing his campaign on public safety issues, while his Democratic opponent Eugene DePasquale is highlighting a commitment to protecting abortion rights and prosecuting hate crimes. Both candidates have been active in fundraising, with Sunday receiving support from various conservative PACs and DePasquale relying on donations from organizations like the Democratic Attorneys General Association, unions, and trial lawyers.

DePasquale’s campaign has raised concerns about the lack of transparency in reporting the ad spending from Yass-funded PACs, accusing Sunday of trying to hide the true value of contributions. While Sunday’s campaign maintains that they followed all procedures, DePasquale’s team believes they were aware of the financial support all along. The scale of spending and the involvement of prominent donors like Yass have brought attention to the race, with DePasquale positioning himself as independent from wealthy influencers.
