OneSixComics is donating copies of their speculative fiction graphic novel, “1/6: The Graphic Novel,” to almost 800 public and charter schools in Pennsylvania as part of a pro-democracy education campaign. The novel explores a fictional scenario where attempts to overturn the 2020 election were successful, diving into themes of autocracy, scapegoating, and strategic misinformation. Written by Harvard Law School professor Alan Jenkins and author Gan Golan, the novel aims to shed light on the events leading up to and following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The donation includes an educational guide developed by the Western States Center, which advocates against anti-democratic movements. The first two issues of the novel introduce main characters and set up a fictional America under totalitarian rule, referencing real-life events like the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. The novel also depicts a news station takeover, blaming groups like “antifa” for the Capitol riot, and resistance efforts through coded messages. Jenkins clarified that the novel does not contain nudity, sex, or gratuitous violence, only portraying factual events or planned scenarios. Although the schools are receiving physical copies of the novel, they are not obligated to include it in their libraries or curricula unless they choose to do so. The final two issues of the comic will be distributed as they are published.
