A new poll conducted by Harvard Youth Poll between September 4 and September 18 shows that Vice President Kamala Harris has a significant lead among young voters, particularly ages 18 to 29, compared to former President Donald Trump. Harris leads by 31 points among likely voters and by 23 points among registered voters in this age group. This could potentially weaken Trump’s chances of reclaiming the White House in November.
The poll indicates that Harris has been able to appeal to young voters through campaigns like “Brat Summer,” celebrity endorsements from artists like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, and a strong presence on social media platforms such as TikTok. Many young voters view Harris more positively compared to Trump and associate her with words like capable, competent, hopeful, and joyful. In contrast, Trump is associated with leadership, strength, and patriotism, but also with negative qualities.
The poll also highlights that Harris holds a lead of over 20 points on key issues such as abortion, climate change, education, healthcare, gun violence protection, and protecting democracy. This shift in support towards Harris among young voters could play a decisive role in the upcoming elections. The results of this poll are a positive development for Democrats, showing an improvement in support from young voters compared to when President Joe Biden was still in the race.
