A new Spotlight PA poll of likely voters in Pennsylvania shows Democrat Kamala Harris leading Republican Donald Trump by four points in the critical swing state. The poll, conducted by the MassINC Polling Group, took place between September 12 and 18, following Harris and Trump’s first debate. Harris won 50% support among those surveyed, compared to Trump’s 46%. The poll also showed that Harris had an edge among unaffiliated and third-party voters, with 47% support compared to Trump’s 42%.
The economy emerged as a key issue for voters, with nearly 70% identifying jobs, wages, and the economy as a top priority. When asked which candidate knows how to manage the economy, Trump was favored by 48% to Harris’ 41%. Despite this, Harris was seen as a person of strong moral character by 50% of respondents, while only 30% said the same of Trump.
In addition to the presidential race, the poll also showed Democrat Bob Casey leading in a critical U.S. Senate race against Republican Dave McCormick, with 49% support to 42%. Six percent of respondents were undecided or didn’t know who to back.
The poll results are important as Pennsylvania was a key state in both Trump’s 2016 victory and Biden’s 2020 win. The pollster emphasized that polls can only measure the current moment and cannot predict the future.
