Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano has filed a lawsuit against several of his critics who have publicly criticized his book about World War I hero Sgt. Alvin York. The lawsuit, which was filed in Franklin County Court, alleges that the defendants have made false and defamatory statements about Mastriano’s book, “Alvin York: A New Biography of the Hero of the Argonne.”
Mastriano’s book, which was published in 2014, tells the story of Sgt. Alvin York, a Medal of Honor recipient who single-handedly captured 132 German soldiers during the Battle of the Argonne in 1918. However, some critics have questioned the accuracy of Mastriano’s research and have accused him of embellishing York’s achievements.
In his lawsuit, Mastriano claims that the defendants have intentionally spread false information about his book in an attempt to damage his reputation and career. He is seeking an unspecified amount of damages as well as an injunction to prevent the defendants from further spreading false information.
Mastriano, who is a Republican representing Franklin County in the Pennsylvania Senate, has defended his book as a work of historical scholarship and has insisted that all of his research is accurate. He has also accused his critics of engaging in a coordinated campaign to discredit him and his work.
The defendants in the lawsuit have not yet publicly commented on the legal action. It remains to be seen how the case will unfold in court and what impact it may have on Mastriano’s reputation and political career.
