Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has confirmed that Hezbollah will “pay an increasing price” following a series of device attacks against its members. In response, Israel has intensified air raids on southern Lebanon, targeting multiple towns and infrastructure. The situation has raised fears of a wider escalation in the region, especially since Hezbollah has promised retaliation for the attacks.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah condemned the attacks, which killed 37 people and wounded nearly 3,000, as “unprecedented.” He vowed to continue operations against Israel until the aggression on Gaza stops. Hamas has expressed support for Hezbollah’s stance, frustrating Israel’s plans to undermine the support front of the people and resistance in Gaza.
The White House has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to lower tensions in the region and has reiterated its commitment against any Iran-backed threats. A preliminary investigation by Lebanese authorities found that the devices used in the attacks were implanted with explosives before arriving in the country and were detonated via electronic messages.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has been ongoing since Israel’s assault on Gaza in October, with multiple casualties on both sides. The recent targeting of Hezbollah members and leaders has raised fears of a potential escalation in the conflict. Israel has not commented on the device explosions, and the situation remains tense in the region.
