Conservative pundit Tucker Carlson, who previously promoted Zyn nicotine pouches, is now distancing himself from the brand over political differences. In an interview with Old Row, Carlson expressed discomfort with the brand’s ties to donors of Kamala Harris and announced he would no longer use it. Although parent company Philip Morris International denies making political contributions to presidential campaigns, its subsidiary Swedish Match North America does have a political action committee that has supported both Republican and Democratic candidates.
Earlier this year, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer raised concerns about Zyn’s impact on teen addiction, prompting Republican criticism. Despite previously touting the benefits of Zyn as a nicotine source on various platforms, including podcasts, Carlson is now shifting away from the brand and launching his own company called Alp Nicotine Pouches.
Alp Nicotine Pouches, according to a website under that name, are promoted as a satisfying and mind-freeing alternative to traditional nicotine products. Carlson has not responded to requests for comment on this new venture. He recently parted ways with Fox News and launched the Tucker Carlson Network streaming platform, which now has a partnership with Old Row.
Overall, Carlson’s change in stance on Zyn and the launch of his own nicotine pouch brand indicate a shift in his personal and political affiliations. The controversy highlights the intersection of politics, business, and personal endorsements in the media industry.
