Former President Donald Trump recently survived two assassination attempts in two months and attributed his survival to a combination of political and spiritual reasons. During an interview, Trump suggested that perhaps God wanted him to be president to save the country. He also criticized the rhetoric of Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, implying that their words may have incited violence against him.
In the interview, Trump discussed both assassination attempts and confirmed that Biden had called him to discuss the incidents and was very polite. He also mentioned that the suspect in the most recent attempt was influenced by the rhetoric of Biden and Harris.
Following the incidents, Trump made a sharp turn back to politics, dropping ads and soliciting fundraising under the theme that Biden and Harris’s rhetoric caused the attempts on his life. Some opponents argue that Trump is trying to silence criticism and has engaged in violent rhetoric himself.
The suspect in the most recent assassination attempt, Ryan Routh, was arrested after pointing a rifle at Trump’s golf course. Routh, a supporter of Ukraine, voted in the North Carolina Democratic primary last March. Overall, the incidents have sparked debates over the influence of political rhetoric and the use of violence in politics.
