The Philadelphia Eagles made a surprising decision to make linebacker Devin White a healthy scratch in their game against the Atlanta Falcons after losing his starting job to Nakobe Dean. Although defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said White would still have a role on defense, it seems he will need to earn his place over the next 15 weeks. White, who signed a one-year deal with the Eagles this offseason, previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but has struggled for most of his career.
In White’s absence, linebackers Zack Baun and Dean performed well in their victory over the Green Bay Packers, with Baun standing out as one of the best players on the field. With White sidelined, the Eagles’ backup linebackers for Week 2 will be Oren Burks, Ben VanSumeren, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
In other injury news, wide receiver A.J. Brown has been ruled out for the game due to a hamstring injury, but rookie Johnny Wilson, who also missed practice with a hamstring issue, will play and may help replace Brown’s production. Additionally, cornerback Eli Ricks, guard Darian Kinnard, guard Trevor Keegan, defensive tackle Byron Young, and emergency quarterback Tanner McKee have also been ruled inactive.
