The Israeli military has confirmed that leaflets urging residents to leave a Lebanon border village were unauthorized and not part of an official evacuation order. The leaflets were dropped on the village of Wazzani on Sunday, marking the first such evacuation notice amid ongoing cross-border fire between Hezbollah and Israel. The leaflets warned residents that Hezbollah was firing from their region and told them to evacuate immediately.
However, Israel’s military stated that the unit responsible for dropping the leaflets had not sought appropriate approval and that no evacuation was actually underway. Wazzani is an agricultural area where Syrian refugees often work, with the mayor stating that while some Syrian workers are leaving, farmers cannot abandon their land and livestock.
Tens of thousands of civilians on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border have already fled during months of cross-border strikes. This latest incident has raised concerns about the potential for further escalation in the region. The situation remains tense as the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, sparked by the war on Gaza, shows no sign of abating.
