A 55-year-old man in Pennsylvania was shot by an officer after allegedly charging police with a machete and hatchet at a residence in East Greenville. The incident began when officers responded to a report of a physical assault from an 18-year-old caller. The man barricaded himself in the basement and made threats to authorities. After failed attempts to negotiate with the man, officers broke down the basement door and found him with weapons. Despite being tasered, the man charged at police and was shot by an Upper Perk police officer. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Neighbors described the man as friendly and expressed sadness over the outcome, feeling that his life could have been saved. The incident is under investigation by Montgomery County detectives. The officer involved has not been publicly identified. The shooting was described as a “sad turn of events” by witnesses in the neighborhood. The incident took place about 50 miles from Philadelphia.
