A Pakistani man living in Canada, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, was arrested for plotting a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn on the one-year anniversary of an attack by Hamas. Khan, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, was charged with attempting to provide support to ISIS. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that Jewish communities should not fear being targeted by hate-fueled terrorist attacks. Khan had shared ISIS propaganda and communicated with undercover officers about his plans to carry out an attack on Jewish people in the U.S., specifically identifying a Jewish center in Brooklyn. He planned to obtain assault rifles and other materials for the attack. Authorities learned of his plans and intercepted him in Ormstown, Quebec, as he was on his way to the U.S. to carry out the attack. Khan’s lawyer has not been disclosed, and it is uncertain when he will face charges in the U.S. Representatives from the Chabad-Lubavitch, the Hasidic Jewish movement headquartered in Brooklyn, did not comment immediately. This arrest highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism targeting vulnerable communities and emphasizes the importance of vigilance in preventing such attacks.
