The split between political parties has hindered progress, with Republicans controlling the process in past sessions but losing majority control in the state House in the latest election.
While some amendments, like those related to emergency powers, were successfully approved by voters, others remain in limbo due to the current political impasse. Both Democrats and Republicans are at odds over the path forward for these amendments, leading to a stalemate in the legislative process.
Despite bipartisan support for certain proposals, including the statute of limitations extension, progress has been hindered by disagreements over unrelated matters being tied to the amendments. Lawmakers are facing pressure from survivors and advocacy groups to move forward with these measures, but the future of these proposals remains uncertain as the current session comes to a close.
