The British competition watchdog has launched an investigation into Ticketmaster, the official ticketing partner for Oasis’ reunion shows next year, over allegations of breaching consumer protection laws. Fans were left shocked and disappointed when prices for the tickets significantly increased through a dynamic pricing scheme after waiting long hours in virtual queues to purchase them. Many ended up paying more than double the advertised rate of 148.50 pounds. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is now examining whether Ticketmaster engaged in unfair commercial practices, provided clear information about dynamic pricing, and put pressure on fans to buy tickets quickly.
Oasis has denied any responsibility, stating that decisions on ticketing and pricing were made by promoters and management, and they were unaware of the use of dynamic pricing. The British government has also announced an investigation into how concert ticket prices are manipulated during high-demand periods. The CMA has highlighted concerns about dynamic pricing in various markets, including live events.
Fans are being asked to share their experiences to support the probe. Ticketmaster has not yet commented on the investigation. Meanwhile, Oasis has added more concert dates in response to the overwhelming demand, with additional shows scheduled in Manchester, London, and Edinburgh. The band’s reunion tour is highly anticipated, and fans are hopeful that the investigation will lead to transparency and fairness in ticket sales.
