Sergio Ferrer, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, and aggravated robbery in connection to the killing of Doberman breeder Paul Peavey, 57, in Colorado. The investigation began on August 21 after Peavey was reported missing, and his body was found on August 24, showing signs of being dragged. Peavey had been shot, and some of his Doberman puppies were missing. Community members who organized search parties gave authorities information leading to Ferrer as a suspect. Investigators found evidence linking Ferrer to the crime at his home, including wipes, jewelry, and dog collars. Ferrer initially claimed his involvement was related to purchasing a puppy from Peavey, but he later admitted to being part of a drug cartel with the victim, alleging Peavey was killed over missing drugs. Ferrer claimed self-defense in shooting Peavey, then moving the body the next day to be found. The investigation is ongoing, with some puppies still unaccounted for. Authorities are asking for anyone with information to come forward through various channels. Additionally, Ferrer’s lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
