Despite a 3.6% decrease in traffic fatalities in 2023, overall motor vehicle fatalities have increased by about 25% in the past decade. The safety administration emphasized the risks of distracted driving, with more than 3,300 deaths and nearly 290,000 injuries caused by distracted drivers in 2022 alone. The Arizona truck driver involved in the deadly crash received a 22-year prison sentence, highlighting the consequences of distracted driving incidents.
