A 35-year-old Moroccan man was deported from Italy on Thursday after being convicted of crimes against people and property. The man, known to police for a previous knife attack in France, was also considered dangerous internationally and had recently been arrested for serious offenses in Italy. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed the deportation in a social media post.
The man’s offenses in Italy included a robbery knife attack in Lucca in May which left three people seriously injured, with one suffering permanent facial deformation. The man had been placed under constant monitoring by investigators from the Digos anti-terrorism section following his previous attack in France. His deportation came after a court rejected his appeal and immigration authorities refused to renew his residence permit.
This incident is not the first time Moroccan citizens have been deported from Italy. In June, a court approved the deportation of Idriss Farhane over cybercrimes, and in 2020, an imam was expelled for supporting the Islamic State group. Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese cited reasons of state security in sending the imam back to Casablanca.
The deportation of the 35-year-old Moroccan man from Italy highlights the country’s commitment to maintaining security and dealing with individuals who pose a threat to public safety. The man’s return to Morocco was carried out with direct accompaniment by specialised State Police personnel, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses.
