The Swedish pop group ABBA has requested that former President Donald Trump’s re-election team stop playing their music and videos at rallies, as their hits were played at a recent rally in Minnesota. ABBA’s record label, Universal Music, issued a statement asking for the immediate removal of their music from Trump events. However, the Trump campaign claims they had permission to use ABBA’s music through licensing agreements with BMI and ASCAP.
Other musical artists have also objected to their music being played at Trump events, including Adele, The Beatles, Beyonce, Celine Dion, Neil Young, and others. The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers recognizes that artists may take legal action if their music is associated with a political campaign without their consent.
The extensive list of artists who have objected to their music being played at Trump events spans several decades and includes popular songs such as “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles, and “Purple Rain” by Prince. These artists, along with ABBA, have protested the use of their music at Trump rallies during various election campaigns.
