Video captures a shooting star streaking through the Tennessee night sky

A stunning meteor made an unexpected appearance in the sky over Tennessee and Southwest Virginia early Friday morning. Glenn Sparks, a driver on Interstate 40, captured the moment on Facebook, describing it as the most amazing meteor of his life. The meteor, visible for over 10 seconds with multiple explosions, traveled over Greeneville, Tennessee, before dissipating. Residents in Southwest Virginia also witnessed the meteor, capturing it on video. While Sparks was in awe of the event, NASA estimates that several meteors per hour can usually be seen on any given night, with 48.5 tons of meteoritic material falling on Earth each day. This material is vaporized in Earth’s atmosphere, leaving behind bright trails known as shooting stars. Meteoroids regularly enter Earth’s atmosphere, creating spectacular displays like the one seen in Tennessee and Virginia.
