Harris defends positions on Israel-Gaza, US border, and fracking in CNN interview; Walz dismisses Republican criticism – live coverage of US elections 2024

Kamala Harris accused Donald Trump of killing a bipartisan border bill earlier this year for political gain, during an interview with CNN. Harris stated that Trump stopped the bill from moving forward because he believed it would not help him politically. She also mentioned that the Biden administration waited more than three years to implement asylum instructions. Harris sidestepped a question about the delay and instead blamed Trump for instructing his allies in Congress not to move forward with the bill. In the interview, Harris also discussed her commitment to consequences for illegal border crossings, her stance on Israel’s defense, and her openness to appointing a Republican to her cabinet if elected. Trump, during a town hall event in Wisconsin, repeated his usual talking points on immigration and the economy, blaming immigrants for lack of job creation and praising authoritarian leaders.Former Democratic congressperson turned Trump campaign surrogate, Tulsi Gabbard, moderated the event and shared emotional remarks about her experience with in vitro fertilization. Trump also stated his support for IVF and promised to leave abortion laws to the states if elected.CNN published a full transcript of the interview, which marked Harris’s first since winning the Democratic nomination. Harris also touched on the moment she learned that Joe Biden was stepping aside from the presidential race, stating that her first thought was about him, not herself.
